City tour Frankfurt (Oder) - Słubice: culture and nature

The city tour leads along historical sights in the historic city center with a detour to the idyllic island of Ziegenwerder. The city tour starts from the market square at the German-Polish Tourist Information Office. Here you can obtain extensive tourist and cultural information. The market square is home to the largest hall church in northern German brick Gothic architecture. The three twelve-metre-high choir windows tell the story of Christ's creation in colorful stained glass. From a height of 67 meters, you can enjoy a wonderful view over Frankfurt (Oder) as far as the neighboring country. Past the European University Viadrina, the path leads over the island of Ziegenwerder. This genuine natural island promises absolute relaxation for young and old. The former valley sand island serves as a bird sanctuary and provides a habitat for over 100 animal and plant species in its natural areas. After crossing one of the most beautiful fishing streets from the 15th century, you reach the three-part garden area with rose and shrub gardens and a large open space. "Der Anger" is a popular leisure and cultural spot for locals. On the way to Gertrauden Park, you pass the church of the same name. It houses various treasures from St. Mary's Church and is equipped with an impressive Sauer organ. On the last section of the city tour is the main post office, which is still a listed ensemble of typical Prussian state buildings. To round off the day on a cultural note, a detour to the Kleist Museum is a good idea. The life and works of the poet Heinrich von Kleist are documented there and the collections are vividly presented. The Viadrina Museum contains collections of historical objects relating to the development of the city and region as an important commercial, cultural and scientific center. Works of art from the Brandenburg State Museum of Modern Art can be viewed in the Packhof.
